Ingredients
- 2 small green peppers, about 2 cups diced
- 1 small yellow onion, about 1.5 cups diced
- 15 oz can Hunts Tomato Sauce
- 6 oz can Hunts Tomato Paste
- 15 oz water
- 2 (15 oz) cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 3 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp chipotle powder
- 1/2 tsp cayenne
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 lb ground beef or turkey
Instructions
- In a large dutch oven, sauté peppers and onions until translucent and slightly caramelized.
- Add chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chipotle, cayenne, salt, and white pepper. Cook 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add ground meat and brown until nearly cooked through; a slight pink is fine.
- Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and water.
- Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat for 15 minutes, then add drained beans.
- Stir in baking soda; sauce will bubble. Continue stirring until bubbling subsides.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
